Entry 1
Item 1: Story
Poverty
One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from the trip, the father asked his son: “ How was the trip?”.
“It was great, Dad.”
“Did you see how poor people live?” the father asked.
“Oh, yeah” said the son.
“So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?” asked the father.
The son answered: “I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.”
“We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sights.”
“We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs.”
“We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.”
The boy’s father was speechless.
Then his son added, “Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.”
- Rhetorical devices:
+ Paradox: The rich family turns out to be the poor one in the point of view of the little boy.
+ Repetition: We have…and they have…
+ Climax: in the last sentence of story: “Thanks Dad for showing me how how poor we are.”
- Message: The most precious richness of life does not depend on properties but on the outlook to life.

Trả lờiXóain item 3. i think the message: the rich don't help the poor, they even take everything from the poor.
Trả lờiXóaIn item 3, im my humble opinion, the message is that the rich exploit the poor because the rich people steal the fish basket of the poor in the cartoon.
Trả lờiXóaIn my opinion, the cartoon in item 3 uses one more rhetorical device which is Metaphor. (The fat/skinny man implies the degree of the wealthiness)
Trả lờiXóaIn the item 3, I think there is another Metaphor
Trả lờiXóafish (the result of labour).
fishingrod ( the invesment of labour. Because the fishingrod of the rich is bigger and longer than the poor's.
I agree with your opinion about the way the rich and the poor get what they want. But to classify the opinion, I think The thing that the rich wants to get is bigger than the poor's.And the rich also invest more his labour than the poor to get what he wants.
