ENTRY 1_ LÊ DANH KHOA

Item 1: Poem

On The Wings of A Butterfly
by Christine McClimans
Your friendship is special
Like the flowers that bloom,
Or when a butterfly emerges
From within its cocoon...

You remind me of that butterfly,
Loving and free,
Bright and colorful,
For the world to see...

We will share sunshine and rainbows;
Sometimes, the rain and the snow;
We'll stand together through it,
While the cold winds blow...

When the time is right,
We won't stop to ask "Why?"
Our friendship will take flight
On the wings of a butterfly ...

Rherotical devices:
  • -       Simile: friendship – the flowers, friendship – butterfly
  • -       Metaphor: rain, now, cold winds ( difficulties in life); sunshine and rainbows ( help and care)
  • -       Rhyme: bloom- cocoon, free- see, rainbows- snow- blow, right- flight, why-butterfly

Message: Friendship is very beautiful. It helps people get over the difficulties in their life and it does take to the skies like butterflies.

Item 2: Cartoon

Rherotical divices:
  • Symbol: Dove - Peace,
  • Overstatement: The soldier pull out a hair of dove to know that there is war or not and the dove is naked.
Message: Human-being consider peace as a game so they can play it with caring nothing.

Item 3: Story

The Ant and the Grasshopper

In a field one summer’s day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart’s content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.
“Why not come and chat with me,” said the Grasshopper, “instead of toiling and moiling in that way?”
“I am helping to lay up food for the winter,” said the Ant, “and recommend you to do the same.”
“Why bother about winter?” said the Grasshopper; we have got plenty of food at present.” But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil.
When the winter came the Grasshopper found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing, every day, corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer.
Then the Grasshopper knew…
It is best to prepare for the days of necessity.
Rhetorical:
  • Metaphor: The Ant - industrious person; The Grasshopper- lazy person.

Message: The story is talk about the saving and diligence. if we are saving and diligent, we will have achievement like the ant. If we are lazy , we will take the consequence of our laziness. Besides, preparation for the future is very important.

  2. Hi there. Generally, I like your all 3 items. They are very comprehensible and implicit. However, there are some points I think you should reconsider.
In item 1, I think you should add parallelism: "Loving and free" -
"Bright and colorful" and the repitition: "and"
In the item 3, I think you should pay more attention to your grammar as well as your spelling. Instead of saying "The story is talk about", you can say "the story is about...". Beeesides, I think you should review the meaning of the word "saving"
By the way, I really like item 2 of yours.

  3. In the item 2: You said "human - being" ,one soldier can not symbolize for human - being. Moreover, as I see, as the way he count, the result will be WAR and the dove(the peach) will be hurt.
