Discrimination
Analysis: In the picture, the recruiter says that the woman is “not the right man for the job”. It is sexual discrimination in workplace that happens many places in the world. It is not true that only men can get the job done well but people still prefer men to pursuit higher career or have a good job/position.

Item 2:

Prejudice

Analysis:  The educational quality in private schools is often assumed as not good as public schools and it is partly true (not all schools), in fact. However, this title emphasizes Đào Duy Từ high school is the only one of all private schools to have a national excellent student.  It means that a private school which has an excellent student like Trần Anh Vũ is nearly impossible because of poor educational quality.

  Stereotype
Analysis: All the folk- songs and proverb above expresses the familiar thought of Vietnamese that when loving girls often care about intelligence of the men, in contrast men concern about the beauty of girls. Actually, there are many men like a good girl (soft manners, intelligent, cute, good- natured…) in characteristics rather than the appearance of her. Also, ability of men is not everything. A sympathetic, thoughtful and good- looking man is also very important with many girls.

School District in North Carolina Accused of Discrimination

-          + Discrimination
-        +  Analysis: The picture is a self-explanatory illustration for discrimination in a high school. Victims suffering this unfairness are Latino students (people of Latin American extraction). A student once was scolded by a teacher there: “Get back to your own country”.

ITEM 2:

-             +  Stereotype
+  Analysis: The short story with the title “ Đàn ông tốt đi đâu hết cả rồi” is about a young woman who had once family break-ups. The first husband, initially loved her so much, betrayed her by extramarital fairs, then. To liberate herself, she split up the husband, and found new joy with another older lover. Nonetheless, the new husband was so selfish and tight-fisted that she went away one more time. Consequently, she disbelieved in most men, most husbands: “all men are the same, they are bad”.

- emotive language
- analysis:  the writer use few words to speak highly of Messi, while he is full of  Christiano Ronaldo's praise. He uses many beautiful words to commend Ronaldo such as " ngôi sao toàn diện bậc nhất làng túc cầu, với khả năng săn bàn tuyệt đỉnh, kiến tạo tuyệt vời, và 1 tinh thần chuyên nghiệp đáng để học hỏi" , especially, in the table, Ronaldo ranks  first and Messi ranks sencond, but in fact, messi is better than him at all stats.

Item 2:
- stereotype and prejudice: Because, the words the man says is " all women are failures" and " otherwise they'd be men"

Men are aggressive, competitive, and domineering. They like to be in control, so they don't ask for directions when they get lost. They're good at math. They just don't "get" relationships and they can't talk about them.

Women are nurturing, cooperative, and docile. They're good in English and they prefer to defer. They don't like gears or silicon chips. They always lose they're keys. They can talk about relationships all day long.

- stereotype
- analysis: in these statement, the characteristics of men and women are mental image of men and women based on opinion but not regard to individual differences.

IDENTIFYING BIAS

Item 1: The image

1.     Type of bias: Discrimination.

2.     Analysis:
The man and the woman in the picture are in the race to build their own career. The man’s running track doesn’t have any barriers; however, the woman’s one is full of obstacles, which shows the discrimination between them. They both are at the same starting point, but when they are in the process of getting a job, woman seem to always be treated in a less favorable way with less priority than man.

Item 2: An article: Vietnam sacks Falko Goetz after SEAGames loss

1.     Type of bias: Scapegoating

2.     Analysis:

The Vietnam football team’s poor performance at the 26th Seagames can be blamed on head coach Falko Goetz. However, there are also some factors that need to be taken into consideration such as: the mental health of the 2 teams, the ability of the teams, teams’ spirit or even the match fixing. Hence, Mr. Falko Goetz definitely can not be the only one to take responsibility for the team’s loss in Indonesia -> VFF’s decision is scapegoating.

Item 3:  Mad TV – Dominic The giant at work (video clip)

1.     Type of bias: Discrimination and assumption.

    2.     Analysis:

- When the first girl and the couple come in the store, they make fun of the guy. They snicker and tease him impolitely and rudely because he is super giant and different from the others. The first girl even compare him to monkey and the couple laugh at him intentionally -> Their actions are discrimination.
- When the beautiful girl comes in the store, the guy thinks that she will laugh at him like the previous people. Therefore, he tries to be rude to her after her greeting. However, she turns out to be gentle because she wants to apply for a job here -> The guy’s reaction to the girl is assumption. He comes to the conclusion that the girl will tease him only in accordance with his limited knowledge about the previous people.

Item 1: Article

"Vietnam sacks Falko Goetz after SEAGames loss"

-Scapegoating

 -Analysis:
In this article, Falko Goetz was mainly blamed for the failure of Vietnam football team at the 26th  SEAGames held in November, 2011 in Indonesia.Due to this reason, the VFF decided to end the contract with him. However, except for the leading of the coach, the Vietnam Football Federation should consider many other  factors which can result in the poor performance of a football team such as team spirit or players’ ability.

Item 2:

- Discrimination

- Analysis:
This picture is about  Bela Padilla – an Philippians actress with white skin wearing a pink bikini in the center and three black models wearing black bikinis standing behind her. The three black girls seem to be in the background of the outstanding white girl. In this photo, there is a racial discrimination between the white and the black, which has been a social problems in many countries until now.

Item 3:
 Vietnamese proverb:
“ Nhất nam viết hữu, thập nữ viết vô”.
