1: Story
Two seeds
Two seeds lay side by side in the
fertile soil.
The first seed said, "I want to
grow! I want to send my roots deep into the soil beneath me, and thrust my
sprouts through the earth's crust above me ... I want to unfurl my tender buds
like banners to announce the arrival of spring ... I want to feel the warmth of
the sun on my face and the blessing of the morning dew on my petals!"
And so she grew...
The second seed said, "Hmmmm.
If I send my roots into the ground below, I don't know what I will encounter in
the dark. If I push my way through the hard soil above me I may damage my
delicate sprouts ... what if I let my buds open and a snail tries to eat them?
And if I were to open my blossoms, a small child may pull me from the ground.
No, it is much better for me to wait until it is safe."
And so she waited...
A yard hen scratching around in the
early spring ground for food found the waiting seed and promptly ate it.
Rhetorical devices:
- Metaphor:
the first seed (that aspires to grow in order to enjoy the beauty of life)
represents the ambitious people or optimists; the second seed (that fear
for its safety in life) represents the passive people or pessimists.
- Repetition:
I want to... ( to express the intense desire of the first seed).
Message:
Seize the day! Men need to live ambitiously and
grasp at opportunities. If not, you will not be able to exist in society.
Item 2: Poem
Dreams by Langston Hughes
Hold
fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
Rhetorical devices:
- Assonance: die-fly; go-snow.
- Metaphor: a broken-winged bird (when the dreams go out, our
lives are deadlocked); a barren field ( our lives will become
insignificant without dreams)
- Repetition: Hold fast to dreams (to emphasize the necessary of
dreams in life).
Message:
People need to have dreams in order
that life is more meaningful.
Item 3: Proverb
“A child without parents is like a
ship without a rudder”. (collection)
Rhetorical devices:
- Simile: a child without parents – a ship without a rudder (a
child, who is not educated by parents, is very easy to deviate as a ship
without a rudder can’t control its direction).
Message:
The children are born to be brought
up in the love of their parents.
MEN need to live .... If not, YOU will not be ...the two subjects are not in the right way
Trả lờiXóai think the Rhetorical devices in items 1,2 are not good enough. for examples, in item 1: Metaphor: the first seed (that aspires to grow in order to enjoy the beauty of life). you should say the first seed ( ambitious people). the words in the brackets are just explain the words outside, not images hidden
Trả lờiXóain item 2. the rhyme(die- fly, go- snow)
Trả lờiXóain item 3. the message: parents play an important role in orienting their childen to go on right way.
hi, i am wondering about item 3.
Trả lờiXóaparallelism: A child without parents - a ship without a rudder. they has a structure parallel to emphasize about the role of parents, and add rhythm to the sentence
