Identifying Bias

Type of bias: Racism
- Analysis: There are two women in the
advertisements. Aunt Jemima, and Lawsee figurehead of racism. The advertisements focus on blacks, these ads
make fun of their physique. Watermelon is typically reserved for blacks as
it was cheap, nutrient poor, and…resembling the lips and large skull.

- - Type of bias: Discrimination
- - Analysis: In the picture, we can see two students (a
boy and a girl) in a competition. The boy, who is huge, wins a lot of medals. In
the contrary, the girl holds only a medal on her hand. Specially, there is a
phrase below “Big man on campus”. This cartoon focuses on the disparity that
still exists between for boys’ and girls’ sports in high school .We can find
gender discrimination even in sport.

Type of bias: Prejudice.

Analysis: In the picture, we can see a
woman holding her child’s hand. They seem to going on the road. The child asks
his mother: “Mommy, why we are not allowed to talk about Uncle Bruce and his
roommate Frank”. From the picture we can
learn about the prejudices against homosexuals. They were considered worthless
to society. They were kept the disabled isolated from family and mainstream
society.

Trả lờiXóaIn my opinion, I think three items are discrimination. Item 1 is racial discrimination, in other word racism. Item 2 is gender discrimination. In the item 3, I think it is also gender discrimination (prejudice in action) because the mother doesn't let her son talk to the gay.
