ENTRY 3: BIAS
 ITEM 1:

-          Stereotype
-          Analysis:  The taxi driver’s mother is a black and she herself believes stereo-typically that the black must be inferior to others . As a result, she accepts the destiny as what she thinks. In fact, if she hadn’t followed  the stereotype about the black, she would have lived and taught her son in a positive way which might bring his son success now.

ITEM 2:
MUSLIM WEDDING CAKE

-          Sexism discrimination
-          Analysis:   This is the cake for the wedding of Muslim. It shows the difference of position between men and women. In muslim countries, the discrimination of gender is strongly serious. Women must follow many strict regulations. They have position lower than men, must do everything and not have any rights…

ITEM 3:
Clip: ĐỪNG XEM MẶT MÀ BẮT HÌNH DONG

-          Prejudice
-          Analysis:  in the clip, the girl and the headmater have a negative judgment  on the old couple being in rags  without knowing  any information about them. They suppose the couple wear ragged clothes meaning they are poor and their coming to the luxurious Oxford university will affect the school’s image badly. They also think the couple don’t  have money to build the buildings. In fact, they have wrong consideration.

  1. Hi Tuyen,
Your item 2 and 3 are very interesting, especially the item 3. However, I think that the story in item 1 is not stereotype because stereotype is a mental image of a group, for example when mentioning the black, people think that they are strong, have white teeth and so on. Not sure but I think that it is prejudice. In my opinion, the mother herself has unfair, negative judgment about her race

  2. thanks for your comment. however, i think that because the woman herself accepts that unfair, nagative judgment abt her race as you say and she thinks that is true. so it can't be prejudice, just stereotype

  3. hi, tuyen. I have the same opinion with Linh that item 1 is prejudice because it's just negative opinion of his mother not a mental image of a group based on opinion without regard to individual differences.
