ENTRY 3

Identifying Bias


ITEM 1:



- Stereotype
- Analysis: Designed this poster, the advertisers aim at appealing men to buy their cigarettes, however, they're saying that women are easy to seduce. A mere puff of smoke will make her follow you anywhere. It seems degrade women and makes men arrogant.



ITEM 2:

-          Prejudice
-          Analysis: This is a poster of MCYS ( Ministry of Community Development Youth and Sports) which was designed to promote social workers. The ad features a social worker helping amputees to play ball, and is captioned with the word "Hopeless" in large font. It’s an example of prejudice that is people with disabilities are hopeless.


ITEM 3:


-          Discrimination, racism
-          Analysis: It’s the drinking fountain segregation - one for “white” and another for “colored”.  This picture illustrates how the African American race was treated during the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the US. At that time, many laws written to prevent them from being considered equal to whites in schools, parks, restaurants, public places…

  1. In the item 1, I think it is prejudice that just men who smoke can attract women.

  2. i think item 1 it also has gender discrimination because the line
    " blow in her face and she'll follow you anywhere" why woman always is blew in her face and follow man that not vice versa.

  3. Actually, in the item 2, I think it's also STEROTYPE because this is a mental image about a group of people

  4. i think the item 2 is discrimination. The image of the sitting boy making fun of the disabled boy is clearly a action of discriminating
