Identifying bias
Item 1:
Prejudice - Sexism
Analysis: The woman in the
picture is carrying a baby, looking after a trolley full of stuffs, making up
and doing a referee’s job as well (she’s holding a flag). Whereas, 4 men are
playing football and only one of them is paying attention to the woman. This
picture shows that women have a lot of responsibilities while all men have to
do is to enjoy their life. This is sexism and a result of the assumption that
householdchores is women’s responsibility.

Stereotype
Analysis: American Police is said
to have “close relationship” with fastfood, especially donuts. This is quite
understandable since donuts and fastfood is available 24 hours a day and they
also provide lots of energy. The picture shows an American Police and a huge
amount of fastfood. This will give the reader the assumption that every
American Police loves fastfood and eats only fastfood during their work day.
However, not every policeman does this.
Item 3:
Race and Sex Discrimination
Analysis: This might be a
direction sign in a restaurant/bar. The sign reads: WHITE mens restroom. It is
clear that white women, and non-white men and women are treated badly in this
restaurant/bar.
