Entry 3Identifying Bias
Item 1
Type of bias : Prejudice
Analysis: In here, we can see that Barbara and Sheba are close friends.
They can share everything in their life (even the sadness). Just as Sheba has a
relationship with her student, Barbara can not accept it. She thinks that Sheba
should not love her student who is younger than her because It is wrong with
the standard of society. She doesn’t care whether that is a true love or not.
The only thing she cares is the gap of age. The young man can’t bring the woman
happiness because The young man is lack of experience and knowledge. This is her own
opinion. This is not a well-founded conclusion.

Item 2
15 Killed in Explosions
Across Iraq
Posted October 27th, 2012 at 9:05 am (UTC-4)
A wave of deadly attacks has shattered the peace in Iraq, where Muslims
are marking the second day of the Eid al-Adha holiday.
Officials say at least 15 people
were killed in a series of explosions and shootings on Saturday, many
of them Shi'ite pilgrims marking the holiday.
The violence includes a bombing north of Baghdad
that killed at least five Shi'ite pilgrims who were in a minibus
that was carrying them to a mosque.
Investigators say another explosion at a popular
open-air market near the capital killed at least five people, including several
children, while a series of attacks elsewhere
in Iraq left at least five others dead.
There were no immediate claims of responsibility
for the attacks. Sunni insurgents and al-Qaida militants
have
previously targeted Shi'ites in a bid to stir up sectarian
strife in Iraq.
Violence across Iraq is down sharply from its
peak in 2006 and 2007. However, 365 people were
killed in unrest in September, making it the country's deadliest month
in two years.
Type
of bias: Emotive Language and
scapecoating
Analysis:
_ Emotive language: In this news the author makes the reader feel
emotional ( strong emotion) by using words and phrases: “A wave of deadly attacks, a series of explosions and shootings, at
least, the country's deadliest” The word “ a wave of” is used to emphasize that
it is not just a simple deadly attack,it becomes “the wave”.Similar with the
word “ a series of” , it means that there are a lot of explosions and shootings
in Iraq. Here, we can feel author’s sympathy in front of the disaster of Iraq.He
also wants to everyone understand this serious losses.
_ Scapecoating: We can find out “scapecoating” in this article when the
author said: “Sunni insurgents and
al-Qaida militants have previously targeted Shi'ites in a bid to stir up sectarian
strife in Iraq” The author blames Sunni
insurgents and al-Qaida militants for stirring up sectarian strife in Iraq.

Items 3
Type of bias: Racism
Analysis: As you can see in this picture, The white
man is hanging the poster on the wall. That man may be the boss of restaurant
or shop. And the most important thing is that The man is “ white men” and he
just allows “white men” to come in his restaurant of his shop. In other words,
he doen’t want “black men” to come or enjoy his shop. He treats “black men” in
a less favorable way by his action.
